Katie Watch DAY 5

The story of the Savior visiting Mary, Martha, and Lazarus has been on my mind today. One sister is bustling about, trying to get the housekeeping done, and the other is sitting at the Savior's feet, listening to His words. When the Savior is asked why He tolerates the lack of serviceable action on the part of the other sister, He states that she has selected the "better part."

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Savior expects us to keep our houses clean, and eat, so we maintain our existance, but I know He also wants us to choose those things that are most important.

I struggle with this sometimes. Okay, a lot. I always have 900 million things going on, things to do, etc. I get caught up in the day-to-days, rather than choosing the better part, even though I try to fit the better part in.

Take the last 5 days for example. I pretty much had to let a bunch of things go (work, church activities, a wedding) to take care of this little miss.

She was diagnosed with the flu on Friday, after suffering through symptoms on Thursday. I am not one to medicate immediately, but I knew she was sick, and I knew DJ would get it, and then Hailey and then probably me, so off to the doctor we went. Sure enough, DJ caught it, but (knock loudly on wood) Hailey and I did not. Nonetheless, all the things I had planned went down the toilet (it was a pattern of the weekend). We have all been taking

since Friday evening. Katie's fever broke on Saturday morning, but the doctor mandated a 48 hour quarantine period. She was slated to go back to school today, but some digestive pyrotechnics (I love that phrase) prevented her from attending, so once again I am home from work.
COOL!!! I can get stuff done!!
Except that my baby is sick... Cleaning the house is important. Doing my internet stuff for my job is important, but cuddling my kid is "the better part." She is sleeping now, that she has had her lunch, and should rest for awhile anyways, so I can get stuff done.
I think the Lord gives us sick kids and sick selves to remind us that our busy-ness is small stuff, and that we need to remember to take a break, smell the roses, and spend time with family!!!
